The 4th gen Scarletts include technical improvements across all interfaces with 120dB dynamic range RedNet A/D converters, a new improved headphone amp, better implementation of knob halo indicators with output metering for the 2i2 and 4i4, and a reworked Air mode.

I've been using a 1st gen Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 for the past 5 months. It has turned out to be very reliable and it works great but the only thing I don't like is the latency. I wanted to try out the 2nd gen 2i2 since Focusrite managed to lower the overall latency considerably.

All Scarlett, No Pimpernels. For this review, Focusrite sent two of the six Scarletts: the 2i2 and the 1U 18i20. There's not space here to list the complement of I/O that each Scarlett possesses, but both follow tried and tested formats, and are practically identical to their 'first generation' Scarlett predecessors.

The Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 is a 2 input, 2 output XLR amp that plugs into via USB to a computer. I upgraded to using it about 4 months ago and I'm glad I did. If you're using an XLR microphone or instrument to record onto a computer, this is a perfect entry level pro amp to start with.
